dying foxtail

Question
hello nick,
i have 2 large and tall foxtail trees in my yard. i live in Louisiana, well this winter we had a freeze. the fonds turned brown. the guy from the palm store told me to cut them and i did. when i cut the dead fonds, i saw that i had 2 fonds sprouting from 1 tree and 1 fond sprouting from the other. they look greenish and brown. to me it looks like the fonds have been trying to sprout for a couple of months. how long does it take for them to fully sprout, or is the tree just dead and i need to buy new ones. i have not really watered them because it has been raining. what should i do?

Answer
Hi Brandy, First thing is they are indeed reacting to a cold stress, the brown fronds and the delay in emergence of the new fronds is evidence of that; that said, you now need to be patient and wait on those new fronds, this will determine the viability of the palm. Let mother nature take over now Brandy, you can't do anything but hope. Nick
