Hibiscus in Florida

Question
Sorry Nick,I should have mentioned I live in New port Richey/Tampa area in FL.It's 40 deg. here this am(close to record,I'm told)It shouldn't get more colder than this at night.I hope. Thx Dennis

Answer
Hi Dennis, I wouldn't put it in the ground, but I would put it in a larger container with new soil (and gravel lining the bottom 3 inches for drainage) and place it in an area outside where it will get the sun for the better part of the day; the reason I wouldn't chance it in the ground right now is that it has been sheltered up to now and a gradual breaking in period to its new surroundings is prudent. Bring it in if the temps threaten to dip into the low 30's or a frost is imminent; next year you can address putting it in the ground if you want, but again, in a protected area where it will be shielded from frost or freeze. Nick
