dracena spikes (lucky bamboo)

Question
I live in Pslm Beach Florida and have many plants indoor and out.  I have taken an interest in dracena spikes in water.  Should bottled water be used and what type of fertilizer and how often?  Thanks for you help.

Answer
Hi Marie, bottled water is fine, the key is to change it weekly (keep it fresh), ..from what I have noticed, a tablespoon of diluted miracle grow every other week seems to satisfy their nutritional needs; keep in mind, these (lucky bamboo) Dracaenas are naturally meant to be grown in soil, they are grown in water for aesthetics, but it isn't their natural growth habit. I have noticed that even with optimum care, they will eventually begin to yellow and development begins to wane; I guess it is more of a novelty and not meant to be a permanent growing location for them. I had one for about 6 months, and when the leaves began to yellow, I moved it out into my landscape and it took off, I think I heard it whisper "thank you" as I walked away......:)..Nick
