Bromilaid houseplant

Question
I bought a bromelaid plant at a local nursery which was reduced in pice. The only thing wrong is that the tips of a few leaves look burnt. they are dry and brown. the rest of the plant appears to be vey heatlthy.  Can I trim the brown off the leaves? Also I read somewhere  that the flower should be removed, is this true.

Answer
Hi lucinda, low light, no direct Sun! (hence the burnt leaf ends..), water the "cup" which is the center of the plant, with half a cup of water only! and another half cup in the soil, then wait until dry before watering again. A very easy plant to care for if this is followed. Trim of the browned leaves at this point and then just follow the above instructions. Once a month mix a soluble fertilizer with the watering schedule at half the recomended strength. When the flower begins to fade, you can cut it off, (for it is finished except for producing new plants..) then when new pups appear, then you sever them for new plants, and discard the parent. Nick
