mass cane plant freeze damage

Question

mass can
Hi there!
I live in Houston, TX.  We had a harsher than usual winter and two freezes wiped out my tall mass cane plant that lives on my very shady patio.  Since we are clear and free of more freezes I went ahead and pruned the tips, but I'm wondering if I did it correctly.  How much should have I cut off or if any for that matter.  The stalks are alive and green, but the ends were most definitely brown.  Can I save this plant?

Answer
Hi Richard, it should be fine, mine got hit too here in Southwest Florida, but I just cut back the dead wood until I reached healthy tissue and there is already side shoots popping out along the main trunk; scratch the bark and when you see the Cambium layer showing green, from that point down is healthy tissue.
