This branch essential to tree?:(

Question
Last year this tree blossomed in October...Received help back then.  Have you Acquainted yourself with the Rogue Valley (SW Oregon)? This one branch 1+ inch diameter and 2ft long has turned BLAACK with small, hard raised bumps and maybe a canker.  I know the tree had sunburn but I found a nice, white netting and the tree is responding with signs of new growth except said branch...I understand that I may have to cut...what can I do? Will take pic if needed.

Answer
If the branch is dead or has a fungus killing the branch you should cut the branch off. Cut it flush with the main stem but not cutting into the stem itself. Remove the cut branch from the area and destroy it. This will keep down the reinfection from the spores (the black bumps). As long as the main trunk (stem) remains the branch is not essential --even if it was since it is dying and/or infected cutting it will keep the spread of the fungus from infecting the entire tree.
