tree transplant

Question
Sir; my parents have jm tree in a large pot, want to put in ground, can this be done now in dec. and what siol does it prefer. Thank you.

Answer
Since I do not know where the tree is located and the climate there I can not give a month that is best for your area. Generally the best time to transplant a tree is in the early spring after the last frost (somewhere just as the leaf buds are opening). Dig the hole twice the size of the pot and as deep and fill with good top soil and mulch around the tree with not more than 3 inches deep of organic mulch not piled up on the trunk. Water about once a week if it does not rain.

"jm" is not enough description of the tree to answer "what type of soil they prefer". I do not recognize a tree called "jm".
