sliver maple trees


Question
is there any way to kill the roots of a sliver maple i had 2 trees removed and now i have little trees popin up all a round were the tree was i tryed pulling the roots out but there are 1,000,000,000 of roots. any help would b nice.

Answer
You can spray the stump with a herbicide called Roundup and it should move down into the root system and kill the roots. Bewware however Roundup will kill ANY green plant it gets on so make sure you do not spray the grass or any plant near by. The good news is the root system stores engery which is being used to sprout new growth and the system has no way of replenishing the food supply without a green top. So if you are persistant in mowing the new sprouts the root system will die on its own sooner or later.
