Magnolia tree in Georgia

Question
I have a large magnolia in back yard. Every year it seems to
loose leaves early, like now in April. It never blooms.
It is surrounded by 3 tall trees to one side. These trees are about 20 feet from Magnolia.
Any suggestions?

Thanks Phil

Answer
They need two things fertilizer and sunlight.
More likely, the plant is missing some essential trace elements, or micronutrients. Nitrogen-rich soils encourage trees to produce more vegetative growth and fewer flowers, You need more phosphorus and micronutrients to stimulate root growth and flowering. To feed the roots, make holes around the drip line of the tree, 6 inches apart and 8 to 12 inches deep (a crowbar works great), and add super phosphate (0-20-0) and your recommended micronutrients according to the directions on the bags. When you fertilize your lawn try not to fertilize under the tree with the high nitrogen lanw fertilizer.

Not a whole lot you can do about the sunlight unless you want to cut trees which I would not recommend. I would go with the fertilizer.
