Sugar Maple Tree sugar production

Question
For my Biology class, I need to know how much sugar a maple tree produces. I've looked a lot on the Internet, and I can't get a straight answer!! I hope you can help! Thank you!

Answer
Approximately forty years are required to grow a maple tree large enough to tap. A tree ten inches in diameter is considered minimum tappable size for one tap. Some trees are large enough for more than one tap. It takes approximately 40 gallons to produce one gallon of syrup. The normal maple season lasts 4 to 6 weeks, sometimes starting as early as February in southern Vermont and lasting into late April in northern Vermont.

In the US the yield averages about 0.20 gal per tap. So normally one 10 inch tree will yield 0.2 gal per tree. So if it takes 40 gal to make one gal of syrup you can see it will take a few trees to be in production.
