Weeping lace leaf red japanese maple

Question
We bought the maple last May, it was beautiful all summer and lost it's leaves in the late fall ( we live in northeast Ohio). Now it is May again and there are no leaves on it. Upon close inspection it does not appear to be dead, if I break off a little piece it is green, and it looks like it has small buds, but I noticed that all the other lace leafs have leaves. Is mine a late bloomer? or will it eventually die? If you can help solve this problem, it will be much appreciated. thanks

Answer
About all that you can do is just wait and see if the tree buds out. We had a late cold spell here in the Southern US this year and trees were late leafing out more than likely this is the case there.  Make sure you do not use any fertilizer for lawns called Weed and Feed. these will kill trees if used near them. I would water the tree with 1 inch of water per week--place a pan under the tree and turn the sprinkler on and when the pan has 1 inch of water in it stop.
