Exposed ASH tree roots & unhealthly bermuda

Question
I have two Ash trees on each side of my front yard. There are quite a few exposed roots on the surface of the lawn. The lawn is Bermuda but this season it looks a little unheathly. I want to add dirt in this area to cover the roots & help the unheathly lawn.
1. Do you cover the roots?
2. If yes with what sandy lom, mushroom dirt?
3. Will the bermuda grow through or do I buy seeds or resod on top?

Answer
You can cover the exposed  roots of trees as long as you do not add more than 2 inches over the top of the roots. Sand is the best since it is less heavier than clay or loam. The Bermuda will grow through the sand if it is there before you cover--no need to resod. But sodding will speed up the process of the grass covering the area.

I would apply lime to the lawn and then apply fertilizer for lawns--make sure you DO NOT use a fertilizer called Weed and Feed-this contains a herbicide that will damage the tree.
