chinese wisteria

Question
Hi, I have a chinese wisteria that is 3years old and about 9 feet high, its on a heavy trelis,it's trunk is about 4" around at the base and seems to be growing very well but I have yet to see a flower. How soon can I expect to see blooms or is there something I need to do?
      truely, M Allen

Answer
Mae,

There are several possiblities for why the Wisteria is not flowering. Too much vegetative growth will retard flower production as well as high nitrogen fertilizers. The amount of light the plant receives will also dictate flower production.

I have found a great resource from Ohio State Unversity on Wisteria care. Go to http://ohioline.osu.edu/hyg-fact/1000/1246.html This fact sheet should answer all your questions.

Good luck.
