Question
I live in Monterey Ca and am looking for the most disease resistant and fast growing climbing rose. One area is in partial shade and would have to be in a container and the other area is in full sun and will not be in a container.  Thank you for any advise you can give me.

New Dawn is your best bet for a climber that will take some shade. It is a healthy one with  nice fragrance. Just make sure the pot is large enough for the roots probably a half barrel size would be ideal.  Dublin Bay is another excellent climber that has nice shaped red flowers and always in bloom, but alas no fragrance to speak of. If you really want a fragrant climber then Blossomtime would be a good one. It may get a small amount of black spot but you don't have to spray as it doesn't effect it at all. Hope this helps.
