Plantings

Question
I am trying to make a rose bed of Fragrance and color. I have purshased floribunda roses, nine of each :Heaven on Earth, Flirtatious, Simply Marvelous, Grand Prize and Honey perfume. What distance apart should I plant them?

I also bought 26 NEW Fragrant Lavender Simplicity Hedge Roses. The magazine said to make a hedge plant them 2 feet apart. Could I also plant the floribundas that way to make hedge or tight bed?

Answer
Hi Robin.......what a wonderful choice!  I always planted with growth/girth in mind.......at least three feet apart.
This gives them plenty of room to "breathe"  and you can enjoy them even when they have "outgrown" their space! There is also the practical problem of spreading fungus(blackspot) when roses are too close together.
The hedge roses are a little different, in that, to do their "job" of becoming a hedge.....they have been bred to intermingle and grow into each other and counteract the fungal thing that we always dread...

Good luck with your new beautiful garden!  There is nothing like roses........visit with us on
