a climbing rose that for two years has no buds or blooms

Question
I have a climbing rose that appeared in my yard one spring, which I beleive a squirrel may have planted the seed, the first year it bloomed red, it has not bloomed or had buds since then, the rose is approximately 3 years old.  How do I get it to bloom again.  I do fertilize every spring and once thru the summer.  One year I cut it back and it didn't bloom.  So the next year I didn't cut it back and it still didn't bloom, whats the secret?  It looks very healthy, the canes are very strong and healthy as well.

Answer
From your description, your climbing rose only blooms on last years wood. This means that it makes new growth this year that will bloom the following year. When you cut it back you cut off the growth that will set the flower buds. Also climbers sometimes will make new canes and because that takes strength, will wait a few years before it blooms. I would stop being kind to your rose and make it pull back on the growth this way you will get the flowers. Just stop fertilizing and only water it. When you see the flower buds, then start the fertilizing. If the rose is healthy it will flower for you. Hope this help.
