Rose bushes

Question
Dear Kathy,
I have several Rose bushes in my front yard .I live in Philadelphia Pa. Always around this time of year late July and August .The leaves on my Rose bushes turn yellow and fall off. By late September the start to return back on the bush and they are fine . Is this coming from a bug or something else.

Answer
Hi Mike...your rose bushes are having some black spot problems.  I grow the old or antique roses and I do not have to worry about that problem as the leaves fall off and new ones come back to take their place.  My roses are on their own roots.  If you have roses that are grafted on a root stock, they take much more care and you would need to use different sprays for different problems those types of roses get.  As they are usually poison, I stay away from that type of rose and only grow old roses, in which case I use Neem Oil Spray on them if needed.  You can try it on the hybrid roses, but do not know how it would work on that type of rose.
