knock out roses damaged at base

Question
We have many Knock Out Roses that have been damaged at the base of the plant. The crown looks like it has been cleanly cut, almost with prunners.  No other plants in the area are damaged. Is there a certain animal we should look for to control

Answer
It is definitely an animal, one with sharp teeth. Rabbits or squirrels are usually the culprits as they love roses. Deer only eat off the tops of roses. As I don't know where you garden, I can't make any suggestions in regards to what animals are in your area. But clean cuts usually mean a rodent of some sort.
