Moving Plants

Question
Hi Ms. Walker.   I want to move several plants and would like to know if now or in the Springis the better time to do that.  The ones I want to move is my Wisteria and Hydrangea plants.  Thank you!

Jeanne James

Answer
Jeanne,
Fall and spring are both good times to transplant.Since Wisteria is very finicky about being transplanted either time would be fine for it.Sometimes it does not bloom for a year or two after transplanting. Hydrangeas are not choosy when they are transplanted but will probably bloom better if you moveed it now so it will have time to establish a root system before it's next bloom time, which is mid summer.Make sure you do not damage or cut off the old stems of the Hydrangea since the new blooms come from the old wood.Water each plant accordingly if you do not get any rainfall in the weeks following their transplant.Good luck and I hope they both turn out well for you.
