forsythia growing

Question
Any ideas why my forsythia blooms on just the lower part?  I live in the snowy northeast. Other info:  this blooming pattern happens every year, I notice others to the same, my plant is older.

Answer
Hi Lisa,
Thanx for your question.  It sounds to me like the type of forsythia you have is not hardy enough for your area.  Look for cultivars that are specific for your area.  If you will provide me with a general location, I may be able to provide you with a list of cultivars that are good for your area.  Basically, I believe the blooming only occurs on the lower parts because this part tends to be more protected by snow while the upper part is expose to sharp, cold, northerly winds.  let me know your location and I'll see what I can do about providing you with a list of hardier cultivars.  I hope this helps.
