mother of thyme

Question
I purchased creeping thyme from a seed co and although it has spread outrageously over the past year it has also grown in height. I have measured 12" in some areas. I am awaiting an email from this co. but I assumed that creeping thyme had a max of 3-5" with lots of blooms that last for months. What can you tell me about MOT, creeping thyme.

Answer
Hi Janet,
Thanx for your question.  The mother-of-thyme (creeping thyme) should grow 3-6 inches tall and is very hardy.  However, there are reports that the plant (under certain conditions) can reach 10 inches or more.  I would imagine the conditions would be lots of nitrogen nutrient, good amount of water, well-drained soil and lots of warm sunlight.  The plant is used medicinally and is a favorite for its scent and easy growing.  It is a native of northern Europe.  I hope this helps.
Tom
