Hardy Fuschia

Question
I am looking for something to plant along the west side of the house which is mostly part sun. Is it foolish to consider hardy fuschia in NW Atalanta GA, I have not seen them sold here which is somewhat of a concern.
Thanks

Answer
Hi Rosemary,
Thanx for your question.  Usually, if you don't see a plant sold around your city, especially a large metropolitan area like Atlanta, the plant probably doesn't do well there.  Even though these plants are native to Mexico and South America, the hardy version is native all the way down to Tierra del Fuego.  One thing they do not like is hot, steamy summers like Atlanta has.  I have tried to grow them here in Kansas and it is just too hot with temperatures staying in the 90s and even into the 100s for long periods of time.  I do not recommend it but what you can do is try one of too plants to see how they do the first season.  They're going to want a partially shaded area.  So, I would try a couple of plants and then go from there.  I hope this helps.
Tom
