ornamental grasses

Question
Hello,

I have ornamental blue dune grass and ornamental reed grass. They are planted about 6-8ft from one another.

I planted the blue dune grass 2 yrs ago and have since found out they are invasive.

Now the blue dune grass is growing under the weed fabric and growing into the reed grass and into my lawn.

Do you know of a way to kill the spreading part of it? Kill the part inside the reed grass and in my lawn?

Thanks for any help you can give.

Have a good day!

Do you know of

Answer
Hi Steve,
Thanx for your question.  The grass spreads by rhizomes so once it gets into other grass you will need to kill the part that has spread which will also kill the surrounding grass.  If you can lift the rhizome before it puts down too many roots, dip the rhizome in some Roundup and anchor it as close to the mother plant as possible.  The rhizomes will continue to appear from the mother plant and blue dune grass is very invasive.  It will quickly take over bare spots or weaker grass.  You will be hard-pressed to control this plant.  I hope this helps.
Tom
