how long purchased plants can go before planting

Question
we bought many plants for our flowerbed, and it has been raining nonstop here and we cannot get them out till the ground dries up some.  we purchased lillies, mini roses, ground cover, plus many other types of flowers.  we have them watered good and they are in comfortable temperatures in a van and I was wondering how long they may stay until we can plant them?  We would place them on the porch but are afraid someone will steal them, and we were considering bringing them inside, but we have cats that may knock them over.

Answer
Hi Mollie,
Thanx for your question.  You should not leave the plants in the van for more than a day or two because even though it is raining, the plants need the bright daylight to grow.  It sounds like you have a lot of plants.  If you had a spare room to which the cats did not have access that might be an alternative.  I basement with a light would be better than leaving the plants in a dark van.  I hope this helps.
Tom
