Rose of Sharon - no blumes

Question
I started a rose of sharon from seed about 3 years ago.  I'm in the Oakville area.  The plants survive and look rather healthy year after year, but I have had no blooms so far.  I have several, all located in different areas of my property but none bloom.  What could be wrong?
Anxiously anticipating your response.

Answer
Hi Hajnalka,
Thanx for your question.  I don't think you have a problem.  The seedlings are not yet fully mature.  It can take up to 4 years for blooming.  If by Oakville, you mean in Ontario, you are at the northern range of Hibiscus syriacus (Rose-of-Sharon), so maturity will take a bit longer than in the southern ranges of the plant.  Your plant should bloom next year.  I hope this helps.
Tom
