Wild Iris

Question

Wild Iris
I saw this iris all by itself in the Black Hills of South Dakota.  Can you tell me what it is?

Answer
Hello Brenda

I think this may be an example of the Iris species called Iris missouriensis, which is native to the northern part of North America.  This would tie in with where you saw it.

However, if you would like a second opinion the AllExperts gardening site does have an expert in Plant Identification.

It is a beauty!
