preserving/drying Calla Lily bouquet

Question
Hello,
I am hoping to preserve my calla lily bouquet and was wondering the best way I can do it at home without losing the colour or them turning brown. There are also oriental grasses in the bouquet.

Many thanks

Sarah

Answer
Greetings from across the pond, Sarah!

You can definitely preserve your calla lilies without losing their lovely color. This is how you do it:

Get your hands on some silica.  You can get some in craft shops ?it is not expensive.

Get a cardboard box with a cover that is large enough such that you can lay your calla lilies flat.

Place an even layer of silica along the bottom of the box.

Put your calla lilies on the layer of silica.

Next, cover the callas in a layer of silica that completely covers them.

Close the cover of the box.

Put the box in a dark place for three days. Perhaps a closet or a basement.

That should do it!

Ornamental grasses are even easier. Just lie them on any flat surface and they will dry out.  They require no special treatment.  Once they are dry you can even put them in a vase. I do this every year.

Does this help? I grow both callas and ornamental grasses and know how wonderful they are.

If this is unclear or you need more information, please do not hesitate to write again.

Regards,

Donna
