Hybrid Orchid phaleanopsis

Question
Hi I just received an older orchid and I want to repot it to make it stand better (and get rid of the hideous pot). Should I use any particular pot and soil to be successful in reporting?

Answer
Gaybrielle, I recommend a plastic pot of sufficient size to accomodate the root mass and plenty of drainage holes.  Use a standard orchid potting mix that you can obtain at a Lowes, Home Depot or other garden center.  Be sure to soak it for an hour or so before use.  When unpotting your plant, rinse off the roots and remove any that are mushy.  As you place the root mass into the new pot, gently rotate the pot as you lower the roots.  This helps to minimize damage.  As you add the new orchid potting mix, tap the pot to help distribute the mix amonst the roots.  Then set the pot aside to drain.
