Paphiopedilum care

Question
Hi,
I have about 20 paph's ranging from large multi-florals like P. Rothschildianum to small ones like P. Larwenceanum but they only bloom once for me. Most have multiple un-bloomed fans and good roots. The temperature stays about 72 degrees. Most are partially shaded from 3 wonderlight incandescent bulbs and humidity never drops below 50%. could you help me get some blooms?
Thanks!

Answer
Michael, it would be nice if there was a simple answer, but, that is not the case. Species, of course, grow naturally under highly varied conditions.  To quote from one descripttion of Paph rothschildianum "Another reason for P. rothchildianum having earned the reputation of being reluctant to  flower is that a colder period in late winter, to allow a distinct dormancy, is often ignored in its culture.  If plants are subjected to a 3-4 week period of 10 degrees C. night temperature in winter, they will produce their flowers 3-4 months later in late spring or early summer."  The authors also recommend a particular growth medium and state that this species responds well to high light intensity (yours is too low), warm growing conditions, copious water and buoyant moving air. This advice is found in the book "The Slpper Orchids" by Hennesy and Hedge,

The same book describes lawrenceanum as more tolerant of different light intensities ,but prefers a winter to summer temperature variation of 15-28 degrees C.  As you can see, different species require somewhat different growing conditions to flower.  Usually hybrids are easier to flower, but a dominant species in that hybrid can make it more difficult to flower.

I suggest that you make separate lists of your species and hybrids.  Then, research the requirements for each of your species and hybrids.  There is agreat deal of information available on-line by googling the name of each species and hybrid.  I could recommend some books but, because of the specialized content, each book is likely to cost $50-$100.
