2 Spider Plant Questions

Question
I have 2 questions about my spider plants. I took several babies off my moms plant last summer.  The first one, I planted in a regular hanging pot and kept outside.  The second I put in my turtle cage indoors with a plant light.

The 1st plant grew short and thick.  When I brought it in last week when it got cold, most of the leaves are now slimy and witly mush.

The 2nd plant is VERY tall (about 10 in.) but only has 3 leaves on it. My mom killed her plant and wants the one I had in the turtle cage, so I repotted it.  It seems to be doing okay.

My questions are: What can I do to fix the slimy wilty mush of the 1st one, and how can I get the tall one to grow thicker. (I still haven't taken it to my mom yet.)

Thank you,
 Kali

Answer
Kali,

The slimy one froze. Trim off all the slimy leaves and if you are very lucky the roots will send out new leaves and the plant will survive. If new leave do not appear within 2 months the plant is dead.

The tall one is too far from the light and the light is not strong enough or it is not a grow light bulb so it is not supplying full spectrum light. Put it in a south facing sunny window and in the summer put it outdoors and it will thicken up.

Good luck.
