angelwing begonia

Question
I recently aquired what my grandmother called an angelwing begonia. This plant is well over fifty years old. I remember seeing it bloom only once in my lifetime.
I am certain that this was her mothers plant and when she passed my grandmother took it home with her.
The plant, what I can rember, was haggard. But, when the weather warmed it bloomed a most beautiful orange-pink bloom that smelled heavenly.
I was only about four, but I do remember the smell.
Recently I lost my grandmother and brought the plant home with me. It was haggard as before.
Dropped every leaf. Even before I brought it home.

My grandmother had it in a plastic 12 inch pot. The height of the plant is about four feet. I am sure it needs replanted.

My question is: will this plant ever bloom again?

Answer
Hi Gypse,

Here is a link to some photos of Angelwing begonia flowers, just to jog your memory!

This plant will bloom regularly, at least annually, if given lots of bright light, including at least a couple of hours of direct sun every day. It also is more incined to flower if it is kept quite potbound and fertilized monthly, assuming it gets enough light. Be sure to water it thoroughly whenever the soil is dry to the touch.

If you can e-mail me a photo of your plant, including one that shows the entire plant with the pot, I may be able to offer some additional insights.

Please let me know if any of this is unclear or if you have any additional questions.
