tropical plant name

Question
Hi, first time on your site, very informative! I aquired a plant from a friend who wasn't sure of the name. It has grown to be about 7 feet or so. The trunk is very thin and all of the growth is on the top 3 feet or so. The older leaves are a deep burgundy with pink through the middle and fanning out like a design and the edges are green.  When the new leaves start they are bright green with yellow but turn as they get older. Once in a while shoots about 6 or 7 inches come out with small whiteish puffs along them. It is a very strange but beautifully coloured plant. The older leaves are about 8 yo 10 inches long. I am going to go and email a picture of my cat which shows the plant in the background. Any help would be appreciated.

Answer
Hi Anne,

Thank you for complimenting my website.

The plant in the background is very dark in the photo so positive ID is difficult, but based on it and your description, I believe your plant is a Croton (Codiaeum).

Please let me know if you have any additional questions.
