Effects of chlorine on plants

Question
I need to do a experment on the effects of Chlorine on plants.

I think I got a experment nobody wanted.
Can you give me any ideas and information about this? I am 11 years old and I cant find much on the internet about this subject.

Thanks for anything you can let me know.

Answer
Hi Danin,

I know the answer, but it is important for you to discover the answer by doing the experiment. The experiment is not hard to do.

Get at least three small plants all of the same kind and size.  Water one of them with dechlorinated (filtered or distilled) water. Water one of them with tap water that is chlorinated for drinking. Water the third plant with heavily chlorinated water such as swimming pool water.

Place all there plants on a windowsill where they get the same light. Water then at the same time (when the surface of the soil feels dry), but each with their own special water.

After several weeks determine which one looks healthiest and which one looks the sickest. That should tell you whether chlorine helps or hurts plants

Please let me know if any of this is unclear or if you have any additional questions.
