baby oil & house plants

Question
Can I use a small amount of baby oil mixed into water to clean my house plants to give them a shine. If not what are the damages it can cause. I don't want to damage my plants, but what else can I use to give my house plants a health look.  Thank You!

i would advise against it as would most horticulturist. baby oil will cause dust and other dirt to stick to the plant. it can also clog the stoma(pores) and make it difficult for the plant to function. if you want to have healthy looking plants wash the foliage 1-2 x's a month by using your kitchen sink sprayer or shower to wash off the foliage of plants. or do it when you water them. you can also wipe the leaves w/a wet cloth. they will then look naturally healthy. healthy for most plants is not shiney. look at the plants in malls and you will see they primarily look clean...not shiney.
add 1 tsp of milk to a sprayer of water..if you must...to put a shine on them.
hope this points you in the right direction
