caring for corn plants

Question
I recently received a corn plant from a florist as a gift while in the hosp. The plant came with no instruction for care. I put it in front of a window and the top leaves started turnig brown. I have not over watered and just keep checking soil to make sure still moist. It is 4 feet tall, no flowers. Should I repot? How should I care for this plant?

Answer
Judy,

Move it away from the window immediately, They are from the jungle and do not like the sun. They need bright light but no sun shining on them, it burns them as you have discovered. Also do not water with city water that has chlorine and flouride, that causes brown spots on the leaves. Do not keep them constantly moist, they need to be pretty dry between waterings for their roots to breathe or the roots will rot.  Do not water until they have felt dry on the surface for at least 3 days. Good luck.
