The Lucky Bamboo!

Question
Will,

Hi, I have a beautiful bamboo plant that I purchased in the City, I asked the little chinese woman on how to care for them and she told me just to make sure they have water. I only use filter water for them. The bamboo, the stick part some of them are turning yellow and the stems are soft. How come this happened? Thanking you in advance for your time and input. Grisel Santos

Answer
Hi Grisel,

Lucky bamboos are Dracaena cuttings rooting in water. They should hold up for about a year before the leaves turn yellow from lack of nutrients.

If you have not had yours that long, then poor light is the only reason for the stems to turn yellow. If you have kept yours near a window, the the only other explanation is that the cuttings were diseased before you purchased them.

Please let me know if any of this is unclear or if you have any additional questions.
