Hi,

I have a couple purple passion plants (relatively new and not very big yet) and they seem to be attracting very small black flies - almost like fruit flies.  Can you tell me what they are and how to get rid of them?  Is it possible these things bite as well?

Ok here is what you do.  Get some Murphy's Oil Soap.  Mix 1 capfull per gallon of water.  Use this as a soil drench once a week for two weeks.  This will get rid of them.  The oil in the soap smothers the larvae killing them.  It will take a few weeks for them to be totally gone.  Hang in there it does work.
