Gardenia plant

Question
Hi Darlene!
I received a gardenia tree for Easter this year and haven't had much success. I have read a lot online about care but can't seem to get it to thrive. The original blooms have fallen off and I can get it to where I have new growth and it looks healthy.  But it is thin because the leaves keep turning yellow and fall off.  The buds even grow and then as soon as they get big they get brown at the base and fall off.  Now I have aphids.  I have brought it indoors as I live in is and it is very hot.  I have it right by a northern window but about 3 feet from a vent because all of my vents are right next to any window we have.  Last week I repotted it to a larger pot and used miracle grow potting soil along with the original soil.

I know they need humidity and I have a humidifier that I haven't tried.

Any advise would be wonderful!!

Thank you!

Answer
Samira,

Indoors it it needs to be next to a south or east or west facing window with the window covering open all day long. It is better for it to be by the vent than for it not to get enough sun. It is loosing it's blooms and getting weak so it is being attacked by aphids because it is not getting enough light. Put it by a window where it will get lots of sun, turn your humidifier on next to it and get an insecticide at a good garden center to treat the aphids. Take it outside just long enough to treat it. Then back by the window and the humidifier and you will make it much happier. Good luck!

Darlene
