Ponytail Palm (PTP)

Question
My PTP is over 6 feet tall, the base of the foot is about 12 inches. i have had it for 17+ years.
it has a new pony tail growing out of the foot i would like to know if you can separate the baby from the old plant and grow it, without hurting the old plant? If so how would I go about it?
Thank you!
Johhny

Answer
Johnny,

Yes, the baby can be removed (ct off with a shrp knife so it has a small piece of base with it) , dipped in rooting hormone and snuggled in the top of a fresh pot of soil. However, this is best done in the spring as the days are lengthening. It will have a better chance of rooting then. Keep it in a sunny location while it is rooting. If you have more specific questions write again. Good luck.
