Dracaena Massangeana Can

Question
I have a quite large Dracaena Massangeana Cane. I just recently moved and in the process the very top stalk and its leaves as a whole was ripped off. Is there any way to now plant this so that it may survive? Should I put it in water to grow roots, or just plant it in soil? I have had this plant for years and I am sad that this has happened. Is there anyway to save it?

I also want to know how to get new stalks and leaves to sprout from the cane. I recently purchased a new plant that had these. My old one does not. Have I not taken correct care of it, is this why?

Thanks so much,
Erika

Answer
Hi Erik,
You can try to plant the top stalk on soil and see if it will grow roots. You can dust the cut end with rooting hormone to help it root but even then it may not.
The cane will sprout new stalks on it own as long as it's healthy, has enough light and is watered appropriately.
I hope this helps. If you have any questions or need additional information please don't hesitate to ask.
Thanks
Tracy
