My cactus broke :(

Question
Well I bought a cactus at Wal-mart on the 6th of October.  It was 27 inches tall and cost only six dollars so I had to buy it.  Well while transporting it to my house it tipped over and broke in home place and bent in the other. The peice did not break all the way off.  They size of the broken peice is about half of the size of the whole plant. I have no idea what kind of cactus is. I have straightened it out with bamboo rods and have given it several bandaid for the break.  Please help

Answer
Dear John,

Let the broken piece heal for at least another week or so. You can then plant it with the cactus you bought or in a different pot (make sure to plant it about 3 to 4 inches in the soil. If it takes root, it will take at least a month, maybe more to do so, so be patient.

The other partially broken stem will heal and depending on how broken (50% or less), it should be able to stand on its own after it heals. If it is more that 50% broken, you might consider breaking it off and replanting with the other piece. Hope this helps.

Sincerely,

Greg
