additional croton question

Question
In an earlier answer you advised that croton plants may get spider mites in warm dry air. I have just brought a small croton (about 8-10")home and have it in my room which has dry, hot heater air (not directly blowing on plant)alternately with very cool air. Should my plant get spider mites, how can I get rid of them without using anything too dangerous since it is in my bedroom? What kills spider mites? My plant looks very very healthy with variegated leaves of green, yellow, orange and red.

Answer
Pat,

Give the plant plenty of sunshine and let it dry out well between waterings and it will be less likely to get spidermites. If it does spray them with rubbing alcohol, it is harmless to you and the environment but will kill the insects. Good luck.
