Ivy topiary

Question

Darlene,
The plants are just wrapped around a heavy wire form--no styrofoam or spagnum moss. If you still want a picture, let me know. Seems the only water they get is from the stems that are wound around the main heavy wire form from the pot on the bottom.

-----Question-----
Thanks for your help last nite regarding my fig tree & making new plants.
I have an ivy topiary with 2 balls of leaves at the top of the plant. There are new sprigs sprouting. Should I cut them off or wrap them around the balls? The balls are just wrapped around a heavy wire stake. The sprigs on the bottom are loose. Should I trim them or let them grow naturally?
-----Answer-----
Anne,

I would start by trying to wrapp them firmly. Are the balls filled with spaghmum moss or are they styrofoam balls? If you can email me a picture to [email protected]

Let me know and I will try to help you .

Answer
Anne,

Then, yes you want to keep wrapping them and you may want to use fine wire to secure them every so often. If the balls are already really thick with ivy you can trim them whenever you would like but be sure to omy prune off the ends. Don't cut through a stem that is already wound around several times. The sprigs at the base I would probably prune, it is difficult to say absolutely without seeing them. If you agree I do not need to see the picture. If you are really not sure about those bottom ones then send me a picture. I love topiaries. Good luck.
