Bromeliades

Question
I have a plant that is now about 1 1/2 old.  It had a gorgeous bloom on it when I bought it, but has not bloomed since.  The leaves are getting bigger, and it appears that something is trying to grow, I get pointed parts that seem to be drying out and shedding layers as they grow.  The plant get direct sunlight, and I water once a week.

Answer
Hello Lori,

Im not exactly sure what your question is.
The pointed parts are offsets(pups) that start to grow from the base of the mother plant. Bromeliads only bloom once in their lifetime then begin to slowly die. As it dies it will grow these pups which will eventually replace the mother plant in the pot. They can also be removed once they reach a certain size and be repoted.
As a general rule most bromeliads dont like direct sunlight and easily sunburn. However, if it's been doing good in the place its in for a year and a half i wouldn't move it.
You should also keep water in the cup at the center of the plant. Most Bromeliads get most of their sustenance this way.

If you're asking for care tips you can send me a picture at [email protected] and i can give better tips once i know the kind of bromeliad. If you cant send a picture let me know and i can give you a list of things id need to know to ID it.
