Giant Pothos with...

Question
QUESTION: I have a giant pothos that is about a years old. It has
begun to get little brown speckeled spots on the underside
of about ten leaves. What am I doing incorrectly for this
to happen and what can I do to stop this? Thanks for your
help.

ANSWER: Hi Deborah,

I need either a photo or a better description of the brown spots. Are they slightly raised bumps? Do they scratch off with a fingernail? How big are they? Are the only on older leaves?

Regards,
Will Creed

QUESTION: No, they are not raised spots. They are just smooth brown
spots on the underside of the leaves. I don't have a camera
to send a picture but I'll describe as best I can. I'm won-
dering if maybe it comes from overwatering? The spots are
also not confined to older leaves but seems to happen to
any leaf. The spots cannot be scratched off either and they
are smaller than a droplet of water.Hope this helps.

Answer
Hi Deborah,

Understand that I am making an educated guess here because I can't see what you are describing.

It may well be that these spots are nothing more than natural blemishes on the leaves. This is likely to be true if the spots are only on the undersides and not all the way through the leaves. I also think this may be the case because not a high percentage of leaves are affected.

Otherwise, it may be that your local tap water is too hard and the excess minerals are burning roots and leaves. If so, use filtered or distilled water.

Another possibility is that your watering is inconsistent. Allow the top quarter of the soil to dry out in between thorough waterings with plain water.

Please let me know if any of this is unclear or if you have any additional questions.
