How to prevent Brush Cherry from flowering

Question
Hello! My husband is allergic to pollen and we have about 8 tall brush cherry trees which has abundant flowers, my husband wants to cut the tree (which I vehemently disagre) or I need to find how to stop it from flowering.  Would appreciate your help.
Thanks

Answer
Nancy,

No, I do not know of any way to prevent brush cherry trees from blooming or any other trees for that matter. The following website discusses that: http://lists.ifas.ufl.edu/cgi-bin/wa.exe?A2=ind0502&L=sanet-mg&P=16954

My question would be is that the only tree that he is allergic to the pollen? Has he been tested? Is he being treated be an allergist? That tree blooms at the same time many other trees bloom, some you do not even realize are blooming because the blooms are inconspicuous such as evergreens, elms, poplars, etc. If he has not been tested he doesn't now for sure if he may be reacting to another tree and not the brush cherries and you are cutting them down for no reason. I too have severe allergies but I have seen an allergist for several years and am being very successfully treated so I am not bothered that severely by them. I wish you luck and hope you can talk him out of cutting your beautiful brush cherries. Good luck.

Darlene
