wandering jew

Question
Every year before the first frost I replant all my outside wandering jew containers and bring them inside into my basement. It is the only place where I have light.  They do ok but when I bring them out the following spring they just take off on my deck.

Is it possible to just take cuttings and put them in water instead of actually planting them?  It is a real nuisance to haul them in and my husband doesn't like the mess in the basement.

Thank you for your assistance.
Most sincerely,
Susan

Answer
The trouble with taking cuttings in Autumn is that the days are getting shorter and shorter.  This is NOT conducive to new tissue growth.  It might work.  But it might not.

Why not bring in a single plant, and in the Spring, you can take cuttings to root.  This will happen very quickly at that time of year, provided the temperatures are suitable.

Give it some thought.
