Jamaican Song Plant

Question
I have a Jamaican song plant( with me the last 10 yrs) repotted it 5 yrs ago. recently ( last month and a bit )his leafs have started to drop. I water all my planets once every few weeks ( always have) he is sitting in my livingroom window facing west, has been there for the last few yrs. plant stands about 4 feet, he is full, small (thin) multiple (8) stocks in a pot 14 inches in diameter and 18 inches in depth. Any ideas? I am in Alberta Canada, so the area is dry. This summer has been rainy so humity has been on average 65%. We have A/C but have not been using it all that much and I close the blinds by 2 pm so the sun doesn't beat inside. Honestly everything that i have mentioned, I have been doing for the last 5 yrs... so that is why i am confused.

Answer
Erin,

Your Pleomele Reflexa or Song of Jamaica should love the conditions you say you are giving it. I wonder if you have either waited a bit longer than you realized between waterings and he is drying out too much or someone else in your house thinks he is getting too dry and is giving him extra water between your waterings. He cannot stand to get totally dry nor can he stand to be too wet or to sit with a lot of water in his drain tray for long periods of time. Make sure you empty it an hour or so after watering him. Otherwise your care sounds perfect. I think it must be a water problem. Good luck.
