Peace Lily houseplant

Question
When I bought this plant there was an abundance of white flowers which the plant carried on producing for a few months but now the flowers on the plant are all green the same colour as the leaves what am I doing wrong I do not over water or under water the plant I think it might need re potting now could this be the reason? help!

Answer
Avril,

No, those flowers are just done blooming and need to be cut off so they don't try to make seed. If you cut them off and give it a dose of fertilizer for blooming plants it should trigger it to send out new blooms soon. If it doesn't bloom again within 3 months you you can sprinkle a tablespoon of Epsom Salts (magnesium sulfate) on top of the soil before you water it and that will trigger new blooms. Absolutely do not repot it. It will bloom better if it is somewhat rootbound. This is the wrong time of year to repot because the roots will not be actively growing because of the shorter days. You should repot it between April 15th and June 30th but only if you want the Peace Lily to grow larger. Then you should only move it to a pot with a diameter 2 inches larger than the pot it is in now. If you have more questions feel free to write again. Good luck.
