hibuscus as a houseplant

Question
I sprayed my plant with insect killer for whiteflies and all the leaves are drooping - some have withered so much and turned brown what can I do for it now?

Answer
Good morning D

I have lost count of the times I have sprayed my hibiscus plants to rid them of white and green fly and they have never shown any adverse effect.  Did you use an aerosol spray or a liquid insecticide?  If the latter perhaps it was not diluted enough?

Have you been watering the plant well?  Azaleas need a lot of water especially in the growing season and also bright light.

If it were my plant I would remove all the brown leaves and see, if after watering,[see another response from me on the best way to water azaleas] the other leaves recover.  If they don't then I would prune it and wait for the new growth to come through.

Although plant books will tell you not to put azaleas in direct sun mine are outside on a balcony which receives sun until about 2.30 p.m.and they are thriving, as long as I remember to water them daily!  Maybe one day they will keel over but right now they look lovely and have done for a couple of years.
